Army supports Haiti

Fort Polk, La. —

The 18th Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg, N.C., will deploy a battalion with a Command and Control Element in response to the earthquake in Haiti.

More than 100 Soldiers from Bravo Troop, 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, deployed mid-afternoon Thursday to support humanitarian operations in Haiti. The entire battalion along with a 2nd Brigade Combat Team Command and Control Element, about 800 Soldiers, are scheduled to deploy today.

The XVIII Airborne Corps Headquarters deployed a six-person liaison team Wednesday to Southern Command headquarters in Miami to assist with the planning effort.

Soldiers from Fort Bragg will continue preparations for additional deployments for continued support if called upon.
