Parent, child arts
The Fort Polk Arts and Crafts Center offers the following classes during March:
• Tuesday, 4-7:30 p.m., spring/Easter tote bag painting for ages 5 and up. Class fee is $15 and all supplies are included. This is a parent/child project. If parents want to work on their own tote bags, extra bags can be purchased before class.
• March 16, 5-7 p.m., kids ceramic painting. The project consists of two ceramic eggs and one mini bunny. You must preregister by Tuesday. Class fee is $15 and all supplies are included.

FCC providers needed
Working as a family child care provider on Fort Polk provides an opportunity to earn a competitive salary, receive free transferable training and become a certified, accredited professional. FCC providers offer quality, quarters-based child care and provide an essential service to military Families. FCC orientation is the second and fourth Thursday of each month. The next orientation is Thursday at bldg 400, Radio Road from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Call 531-1961 to register.

Spring SAS camps
Child, Youth and School Services’ School Age Services hosts spring camps for students in second through sixth grade. Options include fine arts, bowling, SAS Olympics, service fun or SAS chronicles camps.
Participants must be registered with CYSS. Registration is in bldg 400, Radio Road. Camps will take place March 29-April 2 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. SAS programs will continue to run from 5:45 a.m.-6 p.m. during the camps. Camps will be held at bldg 2070, 1882 16th St. Parents must register their children by March 25. For children already enrolled in SAS, registration is automatic. WebTrac
Child, Youth and School Services offers WebTrac, an interactive on-line database providing parents with personalized access to CYSS programs. With WebTrac, parents can register their children for CYSS, make payments, print receipts and tax statements, sign up for advertised School of Knowledge, Inspiration, Education and Skills Unlimited and EDGE classes, and view Youth Sports  activities. Calling all seniors
Are you a high school or college graduating senior and have a deployed loved one who will miss your graduation? Let the school liaison office record your graduation so you can send it to that loved one. The recording will include a personal greeting and a taping of the graduation. Town hall meetings
Picerne Military Housing invites residents to attend its annual town hall meeting to see what’s in store for Family housing in 2010. The meetings are at 6 p.m. March 15-16 at the Dogwood Terrace Neighborhood Center, 300 Warren Court. Call 537-5000 for more information.

Homework lab
Child, Youth and School Services offers a weekend homework lab at the Child Development Center in bldg 701 the first and third Saturday of each month. The lab is available for children ages 6 and up. Call 531-7030/1955.

Job fair
Child, Youth and School Services hosts a teen job fair March 31 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Army Community Service, bldg 920, BellRichard Ave. The event is for teens ages 12-18 and includes classes, a working lunch and the job fair. All events are free. Call 531-6936 for more information.

Amazing race
Fort Polk’s version of a popular reality TV show takes place Saturday at 8 a.m. when the Directorate of Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation kicks off “The Amazing Race” on the streets of South Fort Polk. Twelve Soldier and 12 Family teams of four will compete, following clues to different locations.

Bass tourney
The Fort Polk Community Bassmasters hosts its 20th annual Spring Open team fishing tournament March 27 at the Toledo Bend Army Recreation Site. Entry fee is $60 — big bass included. Fishing hours are 6:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Boat and livewell checks are conducted from 4 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. March 27 at the TBRS pavilion. On-site registration is March 26 from noon-8 p.m. or the day of the tournament. To preregister visit www.fortpolkbassmasters.com and print an entry form. Entries must be postmarked by March 22. Stations of cross
The following groups are scheduled to participate during the Stations of the Cross at Fort Polk’s Main Post Chapel:
• Today, Catholic Women of the Chapel
• March 12, Ushers, lectors, Eucharistic ministers and choir
• March 19, Altar servers
• March 26, CCD teachers
• April 2, Confirmation students
Each group will read and prepare soup and bread for the meal that follows the devotion. The time for each service is 5:30 p.m. For more information call 239-2748.

Teen skating
The Child, Youth and School Services’ Middle School and Teen Program will host skate night today from 7-9 p.m. at the Siegfried Youth Center. The event is open to teens in sixth through eighth grades and costs $3 for members and $5 for non-members. Non-member guests must be accompanied by a member. Participants must provide their own socks. You may use your own skates or roller blades or borrow a pair. Call 531-1991/1992 for more information.

Poetry workshop
The library offers a poetry workshop March 20 at 2 p.m. for youth ages 12-18 and March 27 for adults. Bring your poetry. Class is limited to 10 students. Call 531-2665 for more information.

ACS classes
Army Community Service offers the following classes:
• Using credit wisely — Learn to read and understand your credit report, how a credit score is determined, how to improve your credit score, how to correct errors found on your credit report and how to understand the calculation of finance charges. The class is Tuesday from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Army Community Service Center, bldg 920. For more information call 531-1957.
•Play morning –– a two-hour session where parents and children play in a group setting. Sessions are held Tuesdays from 9-11 a.m. at the ACS Center. No registration is required. For more information call 531-9753/1938.

New jobs
Fort Polk has begun recruiting for the new Main Post Exchange complex and food court which are scheduled to open in April. Target candidates for the more than 100 new positions are military spouses and dependents. Applications are being accepted at www.aafes.com/employment.

NSU B-term
Registration for B-term courses is underway at Northwestern State University Leesville-Fort Polk. Classes begin Monday. The Leesville campus offers courses in computer and information systems, computer applications, health education, lifetime sports, personal fitness, first aid and CPR, U.S. history, modern world civilization, basic math, college algebra, political science, general psychology and Spanish. Additional courses are offered by compressed video and internet.
