Abandoned baby
The phone number listed in last week’s Guardian to offer information about a baby that was abandoned at Fort Polk Dec. 6 is incorrect. Please call 531-9468 if you have information or visit www.jrtc-polk.army.mil/des.html and click on the “police stop a crime” link.

Culvert repairs
Culvert repairs on Texas Avenue, north of Cavanaugh Road, are scheduled to begin in early February.
A temporary bypass will be constructed adjacent to the roadwork.
Reduce speed and use caution when driving in this area during construction.

Class 86 graduates
The community is invited to attend the graduation ceremony for Class 86 Combat Advisors Feb. 4 at 9 a.m. in bldg 8209, North Fort. The graduation ceremony is held by the 1st Battalion, 353rd Infantry Regiment, 162nd Infantry Brigade, the unit responsible for training combat advisors before deployment.

DTS training
Defense Travel Service classes are ongoing at Fort Polk’s Library and Education Center, bldg 660. Each class has 20 computers, so space is limited. The next class is held Thursday from 1-3:30 p.m., “traveler’s training class, authorizations and vouchers,” room 211.

Closed for training
The Directorate of Human Resources ID card sections in bldg 1830 and bldg 1942 will be closed Feb. 12 from 8 .m.-4:30 p.m. for mandatory training.

Fort Polk has installed an antiterrorism hotline for community members to report suspicious activity. The number is 531-6584. For all emergencies, call the military police at 531-2677.

For newcomers
Fort Polk’s Army Community Service offers newcomer-reentry orientation for Soldiers and Families that may be new to post or haven’t been here in a while. The orientations are held Thursdays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. (except federal holidays) in the ACS Center, bldg 920. Weekly door prizes are given. Fort Polk and off-post agencies have representatives at the orientations to discuss their services. Spouse windshield tours are also available. Child care is available, but you must either be registered with Child, Youth and School Services or bring an updated shot record. Call 531-6952/6941.
