Baby items
Little things mean a lot to the Fort Polk Layette program. The following items are needed for baby boys and girls: Receiving blankets, onesies, sleepers, socks, caps and newborn to 3 month sized baby outfits.
Items such as these are used to create a “welcome baby” gift bag for the newborns of E-4 and lower enlisted Soldiers. To donate new or gently used items call 537-3976.
 

Car show
Street Dreams Truck Club hosts a car, truck and bike show at the Watermelon Festival Saturday at the Beauregard Fair Grounds, DeRidder, at 8 a.m. For more information on this Family fun event call 348-1888.
 

Ham radio
Leesville ham radio operators host “Field Day,” located at the old KVVP radio station on La. Hwy 28. The event allows amateur radio operators to demonstrate their emergency communication capabilities to the public. Equipment will be set up at noon Saturday and operate until 1 p.m. on Sunday. Recruiting officials
The West Central Basketball Officials Association begins recruiting officials Aug. 19. Meetings will be held Wednesdays at the Leesville Residential Employment Services Office at 6 p.m. Men and women over 18 interested in refereeing basketball should contact Tommy Woods at 789-8193 or Dennis Joiner at 353-6969. No experience is necessary.
 

Girl’s ministry
Interdenomination of Faith Church, Leesville, hosts God’s Girls, a ministry for girls ages 12-18. The program mentors, teaches and prepares girls as they transition to young adults. The program is free and open to the public.

Purple Heart meeting

Granny basketball
Players are needed for the Granny Basketball League. The league is open to ladies age 50 years and older.
