The Leesville High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps conducted drownproofing training Feb. 26 at Fort Polk’s South Fort 50-meter pool. Clockwise from above: Cadets practice treading water in the pool’s deep end; Cadet Teirney Turner emerges from beneath an obstacle that tested the students’ ability to navigate under water; Cadet Tamarcus Bowman uses his trousers to float; cadets enter the water while classmates look on; Cadet Rebecca Campbell moves stealthly through the water; Cadet Aaliyah Stewart enters the pool after a plunge from the 3-meter diving board; and Cadet Kayla Sneed overcomes her fear of heights and steps off the end of the 3-meter board. The drownproofing training is an annual event for the LHS JROTC cadets.
