Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital joins other leading health-care organizations to observe Patient Safety Awareness Week Sunday through March 13.
The week is a nationwide campaign to improve the partnership between patients, families and their health-care providers.
BJACH is a member of the National Patient Safety Foundation’s Stand Up for Patient Safety program. BJACH patient safety experts lead the hospital’s initiatives to engage staff and beneficiaries to emphasize the vital need for partnership and participation in the drive for a safer health-care system.
“Communication is the cornerstone of this year’s theme, and during Patient Safety Awareness Week, BJACH will demonstrate our continuous commitment to provide safe and effective health care to all of our beneficiaries,” said Carolyn Delrie, BJACH patient safety manager.
The highlight of the week is BJACH’s “Set Sail with Patient Safety” walk-through educational forum.
This event takes place March 12 between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. in classroom 1 (room 1080), which is located on the first floor of the hospital.
All beneficiaries and BJACH staff members are invited to visit and learn about new methods for improving the information exchanges that occur during patient-provider encounters.
“Clear and open communication between patients and providers is at the core of safe patient care and is a vital component in keeping patients safe during their journey through the health-care system,” said Diane C. Pinakiewicz, president of the National Safety Foundation, an organization that has been pursuing one mission since its founding in 1997 –– to improve the safety of the health-care system for the patients and families it serves.
“Patients need to be informed and knowledgeable about their health care,” said Delrie. “Ask questions during your visit. Write down things you want to discuss with your provider before the visit, that way you don’t forget something. Be as proactive as possible.”
