Amazing race
Fort Polk’s version of the popular reality TV show takes place March 6 at 8 a.m. when the Directorate of Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation kicks off “The Amazing Race” on the streets of South Fort Polk. Twelve Soldier and 12 Family teams of four will compete, following clues to different locations. Space is limited to the first 12 teams. For more information call 531-9734/0119.

Shooting hours
The Fort Polk Shooting Complex changes to summer hours March 15. New hours are as follows:
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 11 a.m.-6:30 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The complex is closed Tuesdays and Thursdays. Call 531-7552 for more information.

Sewing break
The Army Community Service youth sewing class is on break for at least two months. Watch for information on when the class will resume.

Bass tourney
The Fort Polk Community Bassmasters hosts its 20th annual Spring Open team fishing tournament March 27 at the Toledo Bend Army Recreation Site. Entry fee is $60 — big bass included. Fishing hours are 6:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Boat and livewell checks take place from 4 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. March 27 at the TBRS pavilion. Stations of cross
The following groups are scheduled to participate during the Stations of the Cross at the Main Post Chapel:
• Today, Confirmation students
• March 5, Catholic Women of the Chapel
• March 12, Ushers, lectors, Eucharistic ministers and choir
• March 19, Altar servers
• March 26, CCD teachers
• April 2, Confirmation students
Each group will read and prepare soup and bread for the meal that follows the devotion. The time for each service is 5:30 p.m. For more information call 239-2748.

New jobs
The Army and Air Force Exchange Service has begun recruiting for the new Main Post Exchange complex and food court, scheduled to open in April. Target candidates for the more than 100 new positions are military spouses and dependents. Applications are being accepted at ww.aafes.com/employment.

Liaison reps needed
Child, Youth and School Services seeks volunteers to serve as school liaison representatives. Interested persons must be active duty, retired military, civilian or the spouse of active duty, retired military or civilian. You must attend monthly meetings and the school principal and garrison commander must approve the selection. Openings exist in East Leesville, West Leesville and Pickering elementary schools, Vernon Middle School, Leesville and Rosepine junior high schools, Rosepine High School and home schooling. The Army and Air Force Exchange Program offers cost-cutting measures to help Soldiers and their Family members save money including:

• We’ll Match It! Program. If a shopper sees a price differential of less than $10 they can tell the cashier who will match it on the spot. For price differences more than $10 just bring in a current local competitor’s ad.

NSU B-term
Registration for B-term courses is underway at Northwestern State University Leesville-Fort Polk. Classes begin March 8. The Leesville campus offers courses in computer and information systems, computer applications, health education, lifetime sports, personal fitness, first aid and CPR, U.S. history, modern world civilization, basic math, college algebra, political science, general psychology and Spanish. Additional courses are offered by compressed video and Internet.

PWOC activities
Have you ever wanted to try your hand at Cajun cooking? How about putting that sewing machine collecting dust in the closet to good use? Protestant Women of the Chapel will host Workshop Day Tuesday from 9 a.m.-12:45 p.m. at the Main Post Chapel. Choose from a variety of workshops including Cajun cooking, sewing, crafting, finances, relaxation and more. Lunch is provided and free child care is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Poetry workshop
Fort Polk’s Allen Library offers a poetry workshop for aspiring poets March 20 at 2 p.m. for youth ages 12-18 and again March 27 for adults. Bring your poetry for personalized assistance. Class is limited to 10 students. Call 531-2665 for more information.

Teen skating
The Child, Youth and School Services’ Middle School and Teen Program hosts a skate night March 5 from 7-9 p.m. at the Siegfried Youth Center. The event is open to teens in sixth through eighth grades and costs $3 for members and $5 for non-members.
Non-member guests must be accompanied by an MST member. Participants must provide their own socks. You may use your own skates or roller blades or borrow a pair. Call 531-1991/1992 for more information.
